If I was lost and thirsty in the trackless wastes of a desert and happened to see a palm tree on the horizon, I wouldn’t say, "Oh well, since there’s only one of them, it can’t be important." Instead I would rejoice in the fact that even one tree exists, since it might mark an oasis and water.
