Sir John Eccles has helpfully shown that whatever may be the case about a designer having purposes for world process, it is certainly the case that there is evidence of "purposes" internal to the system which he breaks down into various differentiated levels: apparent purpose, living purpose, conscious purpose, and self-conscious purpose. There roughly correspond to levels of the prebiotic, the reptile, the mammal, and the human being.
