 Edward OakesEdward T. Oakes, S.J., Ph.D.is Chester
& Margaret Paluch Professor of Theology at the University of St. Mary of the
Lake/Mundelein Seminary, the Catholic seminary for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
He entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order) in 1966 and was ordained a priest
in 1979. He earned his doctorate in systematic theology from Union Theological
Seminary in New York City in 1987 and taught six years in the Religious Studies
Program at New York University and six years at Regis University in Denver, Colo.
He is the author of Pattern of Redemption: The Theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar
(New York: Continuum, 1997), the editor of German
Essays on Religion (Continuum, 1994) and the co-editor, with David
Moss of the forthcoming Cambridge Companion
to Hans Urs von Balthasar. He is currently at work on a book on
evolutionary theory tentatively titled, Radical
Naturalism: An Essay in Darwinian Platonism. Published work on this
theme include the essays "The American Aristotle," "Original Sin:
A Disputation," and "The Blind Programmer," all of which appeared
in the monthly journal of opinion First
Things.
