Kingsley, Charles (1819-75)
Anglican priest and writer, most famous for his childrens book The
Water-Babies (1863), a book informed by his enthusiasm for the idea
of evolution. Kingsley did much to try and reconcile the new scientific
knowledge of the 19th Century, especially Darwinism, with Christian doctrine.
